Ricerca

The PNGGI team is conducting grapevine genome research in a number of areas.

Creation of Research Platforms

  • Genome Sequencing. Research aims at sequencing the Pinot noir grapevine genome (including development of BAC libraries and physical maps).
  • Gene transfer. Research goals include development of gene gransfer techniques, identification of gene function, and promoter analysis.
  • Genetic Markers. This sector aims to develop genetic markers (SSR, SNP, AFLP) and genetic maps.
  • Bioinformatics Tools. This area includes the development of software and databases for genome data, gene prediction, gene annotation based on gene ontology.
  • Metabolomics tools. This area aims to develop high throughput platform for identification of metabolites, metabolic profiles, new pathways.

Grape breeding

This area includes development and maintenance of an ampelographic collection, implementation of clonal selection techniques, and selection, cultivation, and characterization of breeding material.

Genetic resistance

This area performs QTL analysis, looks for resistance genes, and develops disease resistant hybrids.

Berry quality

This area looks at metabolites and the genetic determinants that underlie berry quality, including berry composition, aroma QTL, berry gene expression, flavonoid research, and grape composition.

Plant Physiology

This area studies plant phenology, ecophysiology, and photosynthesis efficiency.
